Slieve League is situated on the west coast of Donegal, and stands 601 metres above the Wild Atlantic Ocean. It is the highest and one of the finest marine cliffs in Europe. Standing at the viewing point on Sliabh Liag you see across Donegal bay to Sligo and Benbulben, Leitrim, Mayo, Rathlin O Beirne, and out into the Atlantic ocean as far as the eye can see.
Along with the breath taking views at Slieve League, the surrounding area is steeped in history. On the short journey to the cliffs our drivers and guides will point out all of the interesting landmarks and structures left on the mountain from hundreds of years ago, in the form of Napoleonic towers and some of the navigational aids used by aircraft in World War 2. You will learn the history of the cliff itself and of the people and animals who have inhabited the area throughout the ages, in a fun and exciting way.
Sliabh Liag is part of the International Appalachian Trail, and attracts hill walkers from all over, who wish to conquer the Appalachian trail. From it’s beginning at Slieve League, the trail stretches across Northern Ireland to Scotland and threads south over the western coast of Europe as far as Morocco. The walk at Sliabh Liag is tough and not for the faint hearted, but if you think you are up to the challenge, we can organise a local guide to help you.
Sliabh Liag is viewed by thousands each year from all over the world. We cater for all groups and whether you are just viewing or if you up to the challenge of walking and crossing the famous One Man’s Pass, we can pick up/drop off on any of the many quality walks in the area.
